Learn to Reach and Motivate Sedentary Adults

At two events in August 2005, Michele Guerra, Active Living Partners director, will offer strategies for helping sedentary adults become more active. Guerra, a seasoned speaker, will involve participants in a combination of experiential learning, facilitated discussion, and lecture throughout a series of presentations and workshops. Plan now to attend and come away with solid suggestions for targeting your health promotion efforts.

Reaching New Markets

At the 2005 IHRSA Institute for Professional Club Management held August 8 to 12 in Wellesley, Massachusetts, Guerra presents to a leading group of health club managers and owners. In a small-group setting, she’ll help leaders to do the following:

  • Understand the nature of specialty markets
  • Discover tips for reaching specialty populations such as inactive and older adults
  • Experience what it's really like to be a deconditioned person
  • Share successes and challenges in reaching specialty markets with other club owners and managers
  • Explore creative ways to reach and retain these populations

Active Living Every Day Facilitator Training Workshop

In a preconference event at the Can-Fit-Pro Conference in Toronto, Ontario, Guerra leads licensed Active Living Partners providers through an interactive one-day workshop. The workshop takes place on August 18, just before the conference scheduled for August 19 to 21. Participants learn how to use the innovative Active Living Every Day behavior change program, developed with the renowned Cooper Institute, to help sedentary adults become and stay active for a lifetime. Participants learn how to do the following:

  • Use the latest behavior change techniques to motivate sedentary people to become active
  • Teach skills such as self-monitoring, setting realistic goals, managing time, and preventing relapses
  • Lead and manage groups successfully
  • Coach people to become physically active

Top 10 Ways to Get the Sedentary Moving

Do you really understand the thought processes of sedentary adults? If not, you’ll want to attend this session at the Can-Fit-Pro Conference in Toronto, Ontario, in a morning session on August 19. You’ll have an opportunity to do the following:
