Changes Coming to Active Living Every Day and Healthy Eating Every Day!

We want to share some exciting changes that have recently or will soon be implemented to Active Living Every Day and Healthy Eating Every Day.

  • We have improved the ALED Online tools. These tools are more user friendly and easier to search, plus they are free for participants with the purchase of the book. As providers, we hope the improved ALED program will help you as you market your program and during the class as you facilitate it.
  • We have PowerPoint ancillaries available to replace the overhead masters, which were on the CD-ROM for facilitators. Since these PowerPoint ancillaries are on the facilitator’s page of the Active Living Web site, it will be easier for you to customize the slides as needed, thereby making it easier to implement ALED.
  • We have made improvements to our class management system, such as allowing manual entry for data and new fields to track participant progress, which allows you to make better use of the management system.
  • We are in the process of creating condition-specific inserts for ALED. These short supplements will help your participants include physical activity and healthy eating into their everyday lives, taking into account the chronic conditions they might have. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s arthritis program has just adopted ALED as one of three evidence-based programs for use in state arthritis programs. As part of this effort, we have partnered with the CDC arthritis program to create the first inserts specific to people with arthritis. Depending on the success of this pilot program, we will develop inserts for other chronic conditions such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
  • Coming later in 2008, we’ll have a second edition of the ALED book. Federal physical activity guidelines are now being developed, and we’ll incorporate those new guidelines into the text. Most of the other content will remain the same, with the exception of a few new pictures and examples in the book.

Beginning on March 1, 2008, we will restructure the way the participant materials are sold for both ALED and HEED. Currently, as a facilitator, you have three options for purchasing participant materials: book only, online course only, or book and online combination package.

Now, we will only be offering one option: book and online combination package. And—good news for you—we will lower the price of the package from $49.95 to $34.95.
