How Active Living Every Day and Healthy Eating Every Day Can Work for YMCAs

YMCAs serve thousands of communities across the United States. Their services help children, adults, and families reach their potential. Collectively, YMCAs are the country’s largest providers of health and wellness programs. That makes YMCAs an excellent setting for Active Living Every Day (ALED) and Healthy Eating Every Day (HEED).

Here are some great promotion ideas for using ALED and HEED in YMCAs:
  1. Offer free access to ALED or HEED to all new full-facility members and encourage them to participate in the program.
  2. Offer discounted membership fees to ALED or HEED participants who complete 80% of the classes.
  3. Use ALED and HEED to cross-promote other fitness and nutrition programs to boost program enrollment.

Active Living Partners has made several things available to providers to facilitate offering ALED and HEED. First, we have several resources for marketing and promoting these programs so you don’t have to spend your time or money creating these. In addition, we have created detailed lesson plans for each session, which includes information on materials needed for each session, activities for each session, and frequently asked questions. If you are an ALP provider, you have access to the Active Living Web site, have the opportunity to participate in monthly teleconferences, and receive bimonthly e-newsletters.

As long as you teach at least one class per year, you remain active. We have no licensing or renewal fees.

YMCAs also get a discount on bulk purchases of participant packages; these packages can be combined (for example, 15 ALED and 10 HEED classes).

Active Living Every Day and Healthy Eating Every Day are designed for people who struggle with maintaining an active lifestyle or eating a healthy diet because they have not learned the necessary skills to make permanent changes to their lifestyle.
