Fitness Tools To Suit Your Style

Peter Jaret, an author of Active Living Every Day, Second Edition, describes a number of fitness tools and gadgets in an article on WebMD. In "Fitness Tools for Every Athlete", he offers a review of eight different personal fitness devices that may help to motivate you and improve your physical activity progress. You can read the article at www.webmd.com.

In the article, Jaret quotes another Active Living Every Day, Second Edition author, Ruth Ann Carpenter. Carpenter is also a co-author for Healthy Eating Every Day. Carpenter discusses the benefits of step counters, which are introduced to program participants in Active Living Every Day classes. Carpenter says, "People are often surprised when they strap on a step counter to see how inactive they are during the day. With a step counter, you can set a goal of how many steps to take every day and track your progress. If you're falling short, you may be motivated to take a walk after dinner instead of watching TV."

Another key to using fitness tools is to remember that they are only one factor in meeting your fitness goals; they won't magically make you more fit. But they can provide you with a method for challenging yourself. "They're a great way to tell how intense your workout is and to track your progress," says Carpenter. "They can also offer a great motivational tool."
